What are the regulations with regard to automotive window films?
Each country in Europe is free to determine the allowed visible light transmission for window films applied on automotive glass. Reflective films are strictly forbidden in all regions. For regulation facts please select a country and come back to this question.

How is the film applied?
Automotive window film can be applied with different techniques. The quality of tinting depends on the way the installation is done, not by the technique chosen. All SkyFol applicators are selected and trained uniquely in the industry, as proper application is a key in window film business.

What papers do I get with the film?
In each country you get a standard legal document that holds all necessary information required. You can ask your installer to give you an international, multi-language version, which will be valid in selected countries.

What should I be aware of with my freshly tinted windows?
Beware of moving the windows on the first days, be patient, fogginess will disappear after a given period of time (in the case of sputtered films it can even mean 3-4 weeks in winter time). Do not clean the surface in the first month.

Are there any dangers later?
Always use a soft cloth for cleaning, beware of mechanical interaction with objects, scratch resistant coating does not protect from severe mechanical interaction.

Shall the film protect the interior of my car?
By filtering the UV radiation, regulating visible light transmission and reducing passing infrared energy, SkyFol Shark films severly reduce the fading of fabrics.

Can the film be damaged by the movement of the windows?
The special double scratch resistant coating on all Shark films will protect against any abrasion that occurs during the movement of windows.

How can I get the film off later?
It is advised to visit your tint shop, where film removal is easy and harmless to the glass.

How long is the drying time of the film?
Drying times for architectural films vary from some days to even 3-4 weeks depending on the structure of the film and the circumstances.

Can my glass be broken because of the film?
Glass gets a heavier thermal stress after film is applied. A trained installer will never apply a film which is not suitable for a given glass type. In most of the cases glass failure occurs due to unseen glass defects (like broken edge under the frame, etc.). When a glass is defected, its thermal stress withstanding ability decreases significantly.

Shall Skyfol ThermoProtect give me privacy?
Some ThermoProtect series give you privacy as long as you are on the darker side of the glass. If there is dark outside and you turn on the light, limited privacy can be expected. In order to reach day and night privacy a privacy film is to be used.

Why should I have SkyFol Security films on my glasses?
Shattered glass means a threat to life. By applying safety films, the risk of shattered glass injuries is disabled. SkyFol Security films should be applied in the cases of highly hazardous shattering protection or protection from burglary.

What is the difference between safety films and security films?
Security films are thicker and multi-layer structured, while safety films are usually single-layered and 50-175 micron thick. Safety films give protection against shattering, security films prevent glass from breaking through under heavy impact.

Are these security films standardized according to European Authorities?
Two major European standards are used for safety and security film testing (basically both
developed for glazings), EN 12600 and EN 356.

What is EN 12600?
An impact resistance test simulating a 12-year- old boy hitting the glass. The impactor is a 50-kg-weight on a steel wire. Classes are 1B1, 2B2 and 3B3, where 1B1 is the best performance. 

What is EN 356?
An impact resistance test simulating repeated attacks on glass surfaces. The impactor is a steel ball dropped from given heights. P1A and P2A classes can be reached by applying window film.

Are there heat protective security films in the offer of SkyFol?
There are two series available:  SSI, a metallized silver reflective and SNEU, a sputtered neutral.
